We are a group of more than 50 high net wealth investors who provide financial and intellectual input into startup companies in areas ranging through biotech, fintech, advanced manufacturing, data analysis, software, IT and others. Members have extensive experience in startup building and most have had successful exits from their own companies. We are embedded in the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Australia, with links to other angel groups, VCs, advisory firms, government programs, universities, incubators and accelerators.

Our History

2018	Southern Angels was founded in 2018 and is incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act 1985 of South Australia and operates as a not-for-profit network of individual investors.
2019	Increased membership from 7 to 15, and invested close to $1 million into 7 South Australian startups - see our Portfolio
2020	Despite COVID-19, we increased membership, continued to make investments into startups, and received funding from the Office of the South Australian Chief Entrepreneur to further activate angel investment in the State.
2021	Introduced an angel investor education series, commencing 9 June 2021 with Intro to Angel Investment Workshop and created a diversity and inclusion program to improving our visibility among underrepresented investor groups.
2022	Added two new board members (Leila Henderson and Dr Peter Coldrey), and outperformed our growth targets significantly - see report Southern Angels FY22 Performance
2023	Initiated a twice-yearly Angel Investor Short Course in collaboration with the University of Adelaide to upskill investors participating in early-stage investment.
2024	Established the Southern Angels Bare Trust, in collaboration with Eastend Ventures, to facilitate a greater number of smaller cheques into more startups, under a single listing on a startup’s cap table.
